ABOUT KGEC-ITRA R&D Lab.

A group of 2 faculty members, 2 senior research scholars, and more than 10 MCA students are working day and night at KGEC to execute various aspects of the DiSARM Project. Several interns are also involved time-to-time in the project to work. The project is a brain-child of ITRA, Media Lab. Asia, Deity, GOI. The DiSARM project is simultaneosly being executed at six leading educational Institutes in West Bengal, and is led by IIT Kharagpur. Each team is working independently, as well as jointly in various hierarchical pyralets.

KGEC-ITRA aims to focus on the tasks of the project being executed at KGEC, and in collaboration with other teams. Establishing communication in a post-disaster scenario using a rapidly deployable and robust four-tiered architecture is one of the main themes of the DiSARM project. KGEC is mainly looking at the entities of the architecture and the routing strategy to be followed in such an architecture for communication to be made possible. A Delay Tolerant Network is the possible strategy for communication in such intermittently connected networks. Unicast and multicast DTN routing strategies are being explored at KGEC. Some good proposals have also been made by the team. Use of UAVs is being researched and tested for its viable use in providing connection to unreachable areas and to act as data mules. Android based mobile applications are also being developed to test real-implementation of the thoughts on a real-test-bed. Various other aspects related to the project are also being taken care of by the members involved in the project at KGEC.
